Ethics and malpractice statement

 

These Ethical and publishing standards are integral process during the submission process in the journal. These standards are intended for ensuring high quality publishing and editing practices for publishers, reviewers and the journal.

 

MJA is a journal that generally asks all sides to follow the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and its core practices

 

  1. Misconduct suspected and process

 

All ethical allegations are taken seriously since it is our reasonability to keep the integrity of scientific part of the journal as far as possible.

  • Communications and relation with the authors are based on mutual trust and good faith but if a potential breach of ethics is broth to our attention or suspected (pre or post publication) it is referred to the Integrity and Ethics Panel of the journal, which is chosen by the journal’s Editorial Board.
  • The panel decides the appropriate course of action in regard of the manuscript and published record.

Please note:

  • If misconduct investigation is suspected, it is a very sensitive issue and can take time
  • Journal has the right to contact individual author, institution when allegations of misconduct is pointed
  • Journal has the right to ask for the identity and record proof in this case.
  • Journal keeps a right not to work with anyone who is abusive to the journal process attendees.

  1. Respect for others

 

MJA believes that any attendances in the publishing process are obligated to politeness and respect.

  • We emphasize fairly and professional work without any bias, treatment, without discrimination on every level at any time.
  • The Journal reserves the right not to work with any attendances that has contravened this policy.
  • If you believe that any person or content  contravenes this policy, you can report it to the journal official e-mail address macedoniananesthesiology@gmail.com.  Anonymity is preserved at any time.

 

  1. Author’s responsibilities, roles and who is author

 

  • Autor is a person that has made significant contribution to the manuscript work. Other individuals should be acknowledged.
  • Prepublications, all authors should have read, approved and agreed for the manuscript authorship and the order of authors.
  • In respect to the manuscript all authors have the same responsibility for the content of the manuscript.
  • Authorship or acknowledgements cannot be used misleadingly to imply a contribution or endorsement by individuals who have not been involved with the work.
  • Full names, institution affiliation of all authors need to be clearly stated at the first page.
  • The corresponding author takes all the communication related to the manuscript so detailed information, her\his instructional affiliations (including e-mail addresses and other address should be stated on the first page.
  • It is corresponding author responsibility to ensure data that named authors have read and proved the final version of the manuscript. Additionally, it is corresponding author corresponding role to confirm that all authors have checked the noted changes, revisions needed and agree to start the process of publication to other level.

Note:

  • All authors must have approved the final version and reviewed version of the manuscript.
  • Authors should declare any previously pending publication of the manuscript
  • If the manuscript contains previously published contents (image etc.), authors must submit a segment of permission to reproduce material signed by the authors.
  • It is corresponding author responsibility to ensure that the manuscript has not been published jet and is not under consideration from any other journal.
  • It is corresponding author responsibility to state if the manuscript has been published in an abstract book and to entailed and give all the information for the abstract.
  • Changes in authorship during publication process must be approved by all and all authors should declare and confirm to the journal to be made such genuine change. In addition, the reason for change must be explained.

 

Based on the guidelines above, MJA reserves the right to refuse request if the doubt for the newly added author occurs.

 

  1. Specific ethical declarations and statements

 

MJA publishes studies that involves human and animal subjects, so we give a specific standard that needs to be fulfilled for the journal.

  • Clinical trials which include health related investigations, evaluations of some treatment or devices (drugs, surgical procedures treatments, protocols of care change is recommended to have CONSORT flowcharts.
  • If the study is not registered anywhere, you must state the reason why this is not done
  • Since different types of studies can be publish, MJA encourages authors to follow specific research type guidelines (case reports- CARE guidelines; observational studies -Strobe Guidelines etc.)
  • All these specific guidelines can be found on the EQUAOR network
  • Review articles do not need any approval or informed consent

 

Note:

 

Statements

  • Any work that involves scientific work that include live subjects (human or animal) must be supported by appropriate ethical statement when submitting the manuscript.
  • The ethical statements are checked if they are appropriate for the study reported.
  • Manuscript without ethical statement will not be proceeded until the statement is delivered to the journal.

 

Any ethical statements need to have the following points, when manuscript is submitted

  • Approval by the institution, national or faculty ethics committee, review Bord.
  • Investigations involving animal experiments and studies should have statement of which institution or animal care center guidelines are followed during the experiment
  • Investigations involving human participant should have statement that the research was done in accordance and following the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
  • Statement that all participants or their legal guardian have participated by their own will, without any interest and signed understood inform consent

  1. Founding

 

All sources of funding for the manuscript research work and all the parts where founding was done should be clearly declare by providing the name of the founding source with or the grant name.

Note:

  • If the study did not receive any founding the report is also needed.
  • Any direct sources of funds (employment, grants, patents, stock ownership, sponsorships etc.) or indirect sources of funds (consulting fees, honoraria, equipment supplies etc.) where the funding organisation stands to gain/lose from the publication of the article or could be seen to have influenced the submitted work can be reviewed and contacted.
  1. Conflict of interest

All financial or non-financial conflicts of interest must be declared by all the authors.

Note:

  • Non-financial interests include political, religious, ideological academic conflict of interest.
  • Authors from pharmaceutical organizations that sponsor the trial should declare this as a competing interest.
  • Personal conflict of interest should be declared when the authors have any personal involvement in regard the grants, fees, honoraria received.
  • If there is no disclosure, add the following statement: “No potential conflict of interest was reported by the authors.”
  1. Research results

All data in the results mut be original, not fabricated or mispresented. Conclusions must be honest in regard the research.

Note:

  • Authors should strive to avoid mistakes in research and exercise due diligence in presenting high quality work for publication.
  • They should critically assess the likelihood of experimental, methodological and human errors and avoid self-deception and bias.
  • Where possible they should conduct an internal review to assess the validity of their work before publication
  • If a mistake is recognized or error, it should be admitted and a corrigendum, erratum or retraction should be published for the specific research.

 

  1. Source materials

MJA expects all authors to follow the established science practice in regard the source materials, experiments and research data.

  1. Referencing

One of the responsibilities of authors are to acknowledge other researchers work and to citate the research that have influenced their work.

  • Citations should be made by the journal authors guidelines present on the e-finki.mk.com
  1. Plagiarism

All submitted manuscripts must be author’s own work. Plagiarism is unscientific and unethical point and is not accepted.

Note: All submitted articles are screened for originality and plagiarism throw special plagiarism detection software.

  1. Duplicate publication

Duplicate publication is considered when several manuscripts with basically the same content are found and are unacceptable.

  • When an article is previously published in form of abstract and when the authors report the conference and abstract book information’s than this is not considered as duplicate publication.
  • When from one research a several different studies arise, authors are obligated to inform the Journal and to reference the previous manuscript.
  • Duplicate publication is also considered when a manuscript is published in other language.
  1. Text recycling

For text recycling it is considered when authors publish the same text in more than one publication.

Note:

  • Authors should always be clear and cite the reused text
  1. Parallel submissions

MJA has a policy that the same, essential the same manuscript should not be submitted to other journals while the process of submitting is going on in MJA

  1. Reviewers policies

MJA makes a double blind reviews. Reviewers are asked to uphold any potential conflict of interest before reviewing the manuscript. Reviewers are expected to act within the spirit of the Nolan principles of public life.

If you are unable to act as a reviewer due to a conflict of interest, we will select an alternative reviewer.

Note:

  • Reviewers are expected to do the review by themselves. Otherwise, this is considered as misconduct
  • MJA has the right to request a proof of identity of the reviewer if this is suspected.
  • Reviewers that have any conflict of interest are changed.
  • Reviewers’ names are confidential, and their names can be only in specific situations disclosed to the Editorial board, who must keep the anonymity
  • Reviewers are obligated to give fair frank and constructive criticism.
  • Personal criticism to the authors is not acceptable.
  • Reviewers’ judgment should be objectively and simply explained to the authors, support and good tracks should be given for the manuscript.
  • Reviewers have to inform the journal if they are not able to finish the review in the time given by the journal and therefore should not delay the process of publishing.
  • Reviewers are expected to point out relevant work and whether relevant citations are made.
  • Reviewers should report any suspicion of misconduct to the journal when their suspicion includes but is not limited to: plagiarism, duplicate publications, data fabrications, image manipulations, incorrect authorship and unethical research practice.
